How big is the home advantage?
When two Premier League football teams meet, how big is the home advantage? Or, to put it another way, if Manchester United at home could play Manchester United away, how many goals, on average, would the home team and away team score?
The Times did a analysis of the premiership home advantage only sign of it ive found is this :- A 2006 study by The Times found that in the English Premiership, a home team can be expected to score 37.29% more goals than the away team, though this changes depending on the quality of the teams involved.
There was also a referees survey done too which was discussed on radio five live :-LONDON (Reuters) – Academics have proved what football managers have been griping about for years — that Premiership referees are inconsistent and favour home teams. (link to article)

Basically i think Manchester United have only ever played at Lansdowne Road, but my mate thinks they have played somewhere else too. I can find evidence of 2 games Man United have been involved in at Lansdowne Road. But have now hit a brick wall!

Ok. Well, I’m a United fan but I am standing up for my rivals because I feel bad. Both semi-final second leg games had many incorrect decisions from the ref. For example, Fletchers red card. But Wednesday night was too dramatic and unfair.The last time Ref Tom Ovrebo was reffing a Barcelona match a couple of years ago in the CL he sided with Barcelona which led Barcelona to winning. Next day, guess what happened? He went out in public wearing a Barcelona t-shirt. How obvious can it get? And the UEFA allowed him to ref the match? Chelsea players are getting fined for talking about the ref’s decisions. To be honest, Barcelona are the ones who buy refs not Man Utd or any other team. This is a disgrace.
You are completely right. Overbo should never have refereed that match. Plus he is the worst referee I have ever seen. He made mistakes in Italy v Romania in Euro 2008. I am a Chelsea fan and I think Barcelona didn’t deserve to go through. Also I think Fletcher shouldn’t have been red carded. I would have been happy with Manchester United v Chelsea again but it isn’t. So now I am hoping Manchester United thrash Barcelona in Rome on 27 May.
